Egypt 2009 Tour Notes The map on the left illustrates the cities and places I visited in Egypt during the spring of 2009. Day 1: Cairo. On arrival in Cairo you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Cairo. Day 2: Cairo. Today our tour will take you to Memphis to see the statue of Ramses II and the Step Pyramid in Sakkara. At Giza you will see the Great Pyramid of Cheops and the Sphinx. Overnight Cairo. Day 3: Cairo. Your day will start with a tour of the Egyptian Museum housing the famous treasures of King Tutankhamun. After lunch visit the Citadel of Salah El Din with the Mohamed Ali Mosque followed by Khan El Khalil Bazaar.Overnight Cairo. Day 4: Cairo - Luxor. Morning transfer to airport for flight to Luxor. On arrival your afternoon is at leisure. Explore the charming town by horsedrawn carriage or take the opportunity to enjoy the memorable Sound and Light Show. Overnight Luxor. Day 5: Luxor. Transfer to port for embarkation on cruise. Afternoon visit the awe-inspiring temples of Karnak and Luxor. Overnight onboard. Day 6: Luxor - Esna. Today’s sightseeing includes the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank, Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Relax on board while cruising to Esna. Overnight on board. Day 7: Edfu - Kom Ombo - Aswan. Visit the temple of Horus in Edfu then sail to Kom Ombo and see the temple of Sobek and Haroeris. Continue cruising to Aswan. Overnight onboard. Day 8: Aswan. Visit the legendary Philae Temple, High Dam of Aswan and Granite Quarries. Sail by traditional felucca boats around Kitchener’s Island to the Agha Khan Mausoleum (no inside visit permitted). Overnight onboard. Day 9: Aswan. Disembark after breakfast and transfer to your hotel. Day free to explore Aswan. Excursion to Abu Simbel to see the giant monuments of RamsesII. In the evening enjoy the atmosphere of the Old Cataract Hotel, visited by notables such as Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill. Overnight Aswan. Day 10: Aswan - Cairo. Transfer to airport for flight to Cairo. On arrival transfer to your hotel. In the evening suggest an optional Egyptian Folkloric Show. Taste local cuisine whilst watching exotic dancing and traditional music being performed. Overnight Cairo. Day 11: Alexandria - Morning drive to Alexandria (approx. 3 hours). Visit the Alexandria Library. See the Catacombs where three tiers of burial shafts were carved in the rock 100 feet below the ground. Following lunch visit Pompey’s Pillar and Amphitheatre. In the late afternoon return to Cairo. Day 12: Meidum - Visit the Huni's Pyramid. Day 13: Dashur - Visit the Red and Bended Pyramids. Day 14: Cairo. After breakfast transfer to Cairo airport for departure.
